In pairs, students read cards that contain a dialogue between a dentist, dental hygienist and patient. Students put the numbered dentist's and hygienist's lines in order, 1, 3, 5, etc. Students then read the patient's response cards and add them into the conversation in the correct order, numbering the cards (2, 4, 6, etc.) accordingly. Next, students role-play the dentist dialogue with their partner several times, changing roles each time with one student playing the patient and the other playing both the dentist and hygienist. Finally, students remove the patient's lines and role-play the dialogue again with the dentist/hygienist reading their lines and the patient responding by themselves.
