Students begin by playing a parts of the body pelmanism game. In pairs, students take it in turns to turn over one word card and one picture card. The student reads the body part on the word card. If the word matches with the picture, the student keeps the two cards and has another turn. The student with the most pairs of cards at the end of the game wins. Students then move on to play a game of snap with the cards. One student takes the word cards and the other student takes the picture cards. Both students turn over a card from their pile at the same time. If the word card and picture card match, the first student to say 'Snap' scores a point. Students then pick up their own cards, shuffle them and play again. If a student says 'Snap' when the cards don't match, the other student scores a point and the game continues. The first student to get ten points wins the game.

In groups, the first player tries to place one of their dominoes on either side of the domino on the table by matching a body-part word with a corresponding picture or vice versa. If the body-part word and picture match, the player makes a sentence using one of the sentence frames on the board for one point, e.g. 'I've got two eyes.' The next player then tries to put down one of their dominoes at either end of the domino chain, and so on. The first player to get rid of all their dominoes scores an extra point. After the first player finishes, the remaining players continue taking turns to place their dominoes until they have all been used. The student with the most points at the end of the game wins. Using Body Parts Vocabulary

Body parts vocabulary names the different parts of the body and helps students describe their location, appearance and function. Using these words in sentences lets learners follow instructions, describe characters and explain which part of the body they mean.

How to Use Body Parts Vocabulary

Make meaning visible: Use pictures or a drawn character to establish which body part a word names. Contrast nearby parts, such as the hand and arm, before asking students to label or describe them independently.

Move from naming to sentences: After a student identifies a body part, prompt a description or function with a frame such as 'It has...' or 'We use our... to...'. Gradually remove the frame as students become more confident.

Give descriptions a purpose: Ask students to describe a character for a partner to identify or draw. Encourage details about number, size and location, then compare the result with the original to see which information was clear.

3-Step Framework for Teaching Body Parts Vocabulary

For beginners, move from recognising body-part names to using short sentences and understanding clues. This sequence draws on the page's beginner resources.

1. Establish names and pronunciation: Show flashcards, elicit each body part and model pronunciation. Follow with picture matching and sentence completion. This connects the spoken word with its written form before students use it in a sentence.

2. Build short descriptions: Students match words and pictures in a domino game, then use a sentence frame to earn a point. Encourage them to check singular and plural forms as they speak. The sentence practice prepares them to interpret more information about each body part.

3. Identify body parts from clues: Partners read clue cards and guess using 'It is my...'. The first clue offers two points and the second offers one. This shifts attention from recognising a picture to understanding a verbal description and naming the corresponding body part.

Common Mistakes with Body Parts Vocabulary

Adding regular endings to irregular plurals: Use 'feet' for more than one foot and 'teeth' for more than one tooth. Incorrect: 'The monster has four foots.' Correct: 'The monster has four feet.'

Counting 'hair' when describing it as a whole: Use uncountable 'hair' for the hair on someone's head. Incorrect: 'She has a long hair.' Correct: 'She has long hair.' 'A hair' is correct when you mean one individual strand.
