ESL Future Simple Game - Grammar: Matching, Forming Sentences from Prompts - Group Work In this rewarding future simple game, students practice making predictions with 'will' in response to 'be going to' plans. In groups, students take turns picking up a 'be going to' card, reading it aloud and placing it face-up on the table, e.g. 'I am going to give my teacher a gift.' All the students then race to find a suitable 'will' card to respond to the sentence. When a student finds a matching prediction, they pick it up, and use the prompt on the card to make a prediction using 'will', e.g. 'Your teacher will smile.' If the other students agree that the prediction matches the sentence and uses the future simple correctly, the student keeps the two cards. If not, the student is out of the round, and the other players continue to race to find a suitable prediction card. The game continues until all the 'be going to' cards have been matched. The student with the most pairs of cards at the end of the game wins.

ESL Predictions Game - Grammar and Speaking: Guessing, Forming Sentences, Controlled and Freer Practice - Pair Work Here is a free future simple game in which students predict their partner's future using 'will' and 'won't'. If a student wrote 'no', they make a sentence with 'won't', e.g. I think you won't go to bed before 11 o'clock tonight.' Their partner tells them if their predictions are right or wrong. If a prediction is right, the student puts a tick in the box. The student with the most correct predictions wins the game.

ESL Future Simple Game - Grammar and Speaking: Forming, Asking and Answering Questions - Group Work In this engaging future simple yes/no questions game, students ask questions with 'will' to elicit specific short answers with the correct pronouns. In groups, players take turns choosing one of their short answer cards without showing it to anyone, e.g. 'Yes, they will.' Next, the player thinks of a 'Will...?' question that will elicit the answer on the card, e.g. 'Will Omar and Yumi go home at 3 o'clock?' For answer cards showing 'I', students ask one student a 'Will you...?' question. For 'he' or 'she', students ask about one student using a name, e.g. 'Will Mike/Emma...?' For 'they', students name pairs of students, e.g. 'Will Omar and Yumi...?' For 'we', students ask about their group or class, e.g. our group or our class. For 'it', students ask a question about something, e.g. the weather, the lesson, etc. The player then asks another student in the group the question. If the student gives the same short answer as the one on the card, the player discards the card. If not, the player keeps the card. Play then passes to the next student, and so on. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the game.
