ESL Clothes Vocabulary Game - Battleships - Pair Work In this enjoyable clothes game, students play battleships to practice vocabulary related to clothes. In pairs, students begin by writing seven clothes words somewhere in the grid marked 'You'. Students then take turns calling out coordinates from the 'Your partner' grid on the worksheet, e.g. b 4. If their partner has a letter in that square, they say 'hit' and tell the student the letter. The student then writes the letter in the grid and has another turn. If their partner doesn't have a letter in that square, they say 'miss'. The student then draws an X in the grid and play passes to their partner. The first student to find all seven clothes words wins the game. show less

ESL Clothes Vocabulary Game - Matching, Controlled Practice - Pair Work In this fun clothes vocabulary game, students practice the names of 12 common items of clothing by matching pictures in an 'I have..., Who has...?' chain. In groups, one student starts by placing one of their cards face up on the desk. Each card has two halves. The left half is 'I have...' plus a picture prompt, and the right half is 'Who has...?' plus a picture prompt. The student then says the pair of sentences shown on the card by reading the prompts and saying the items of clothing in the pictures, e.g. 'I have socks. Who has a t-shirt?' All the students then look for the matching 'I have...' card that shows the correct picture. Whoever has that card places it next to the card on the desk, saying the next pair of sentences, e.g. 'I have a t-shirt. Who has shoes?' If the same student has it, they play again. The process continues with the next card and so on. Students continue in this way, placing cards so the pictures match, until all the cards have been matched correctly. The group that matches all the cards correctly first wins. Groups can play several rounds to reinforce the vocabulary and give different players a chance to start.
