ESL Concrete Nouns Activity - Vocabulary: Identifying, Providing Nouns, Matching, Binary Choice, Gap-fill - Pair Work In this free concrete nouns activity, students practice identifying concrete nouns with a partner. First, students read out sets of nouns to their partner who guesses which noun is not concrete and then gives two more concrete nouns on the topic for them to write down. Next, students take it in turns to read out each sentence using the word 'blank' for the missing noun. Their partner listens and finds a pair of nouns shown in the box on their worksheet that matches the sentence and reads them out. When the student hears a pair of nouns that match, they choose which noun is the concrete noun and write it in the sentence. This continues until both students have completed all their sentences. ESL Concrete Nouns Game - Vocabulary: Miming, Guessing - Group Work In this fun concrete nouns game, students mime and guess missing concrete nouns in sentences. In two teams of two, students take it in turns to pick up a card and read the sentence on the card using the word 'blank' for the missing concrete noun. At the same time, the other team starts timing one minute. The reader then mimes the missing concrete noun in the sentence to their partner who tries to guess the word. If the student successfully guesses the noun within the time frame, the team wins and keeps the card. If not, the other team has one chance to guess the concrete noun and steal the card. The game continues with students taking it in turns to pick up a card, read the sentence, and mime the missing noun for their teammate.
